Openness to diversity

The school greatly values the diversity of its students.

The school’s aspiration to open to diversity must be taken literally: it applies to territorial diversity, social and cultural diversity, diversity of age, opinions, origins, and educational levels.

School of excellence

The first-class teachings the school offers are the guarantee a post- training employment for our students.

  • First-class supervision
  • As for all the practical and technical courses, the teaching staff is made exclusively of professionally acknowledged managers. Theoretical and critical analysis courses are provided by research teachers from Université Lumière Lyon 2

  • First-class equipment
  • The school is provided with a permanent set of professional equipment. To keep up with technological changes, this set of equipment is renewed and grown every year.

  • First-class pedagogy
  • Educational progression is tuned-in to students, novel writings, and the corporate world.

The “how” school

The school is widely open to the corporate world.

Practice is at the centre and source of all trainings, with theoretical courses offering solutions to “on-the-field” issues. Training also develops around the implementation of joint projects. Thanks to these sponsored projects, students are exposed to the requirements of a shooting set and editing room.

Cooperative education

Training in a trade does not only involve learning techniques, but it also, and particularly, involves knowing how to get the job done, teamwork, and adaptability to different procedures according to the ongoing project and the production staff involved. For that reason, it matters to engage students in a cooperative education system (as apprenticeship and/or professionalization contracts) in the third year, given that most of the know-how is exclusively company-acquired, in a real filmmaking environment.

The CinéFabrique is experimental in both its functioning and pedagogy by promoting teamwork, project-based training, and through interdisciplinarity.

Open to novel sound and image writings (web document, TV series, documentaries, clips, print-digital media…), and without prioritizing these various media, the school offers the opportunity to test modern writings, innovative technologies, and new broadcasting modes:

Internet, multimedia, crossmedia…

Besides, the school’s governance incorporates students and professional lecturers in its educational choice-making process.

“Learning to learn”

The CinéFabrique aims at learning to learn, which means learning to open to any artistic project, to integrate with a team, to take the various professional groups in consideration throughout the filmmaking process, and to find one’s hallmark. Considering how fast techniques evolve, the quality of our teachings lies neither in the mastery of a given software nor a given camera, but rather in the ability to design and master artistic writings in image, sound, production…

The school is that place which, to some some contradictory extent, makes students want to leave and even pushes them to. It is a place where one must learn to learn and not just store knowledge that technologically will be quickly outdated.

Permeability and Exchanges

Even if specialization is professionally required today, it matters that the school embodies the values of open mindset and “faire ensemble” (joint working). Any audiovisual work or film is the result of a joint work in which everyone, regardless of their positions, uses their know-hows to serve a project or a director’s vision. This complex alchemy, between the affirmation of a personal point of view and the dynamic of a group of technicians, is at the heart of any successful film. Throughout the 3 years of training, joint projects are therefore developed not only between the different departments but also between the different course levels.

Student Commitment

The school’s open-mindedness also applies to the outside world, which starts at the school gates! It thus seems crucial to us that students create connections with the neighbourhood and the school region, and this is done through subject selections (fictions or documentaries), open casting calls, public screening, and offering image education lessons to the pupils of the regional schools.

Providing these image education lessons is part of the learning programme and represents one credit unit attested by the award of 2 ECTS. Offering this courses allows every students to question their practice, change their perception, and prevent the development “l’entre soi” (between-insider culture).

Personal view strengthening

The CinéFabrique trains managers able to commit themselves to the making of a film. Strong personal image, quality sound recording, efficient editing, coherent production, or dramatic art scriptwriting are the signing hallmarks of their artistic contributions. To achieve such standards, the school equips each student with technical skills, critical thinking, and cultural openness applicable to other arts: theatre, dancing, cooking, visual arts, music…
